Global School Play Day and World Read Aloud Day
The Big Picture:
The children will have the ENTIRE DAY here at school to play "traditional" no-tech games - board games, cards, building, action figures and the like - with their classmates, teachers, specialists and myself. This day turns into a phenomenal opportunity to give our children practice in communication, collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, access to the games they have never played and overall FREE PLAY! The teachers will have the children reflect on their experiences at various points throughout the day.
In addition to games all day, we will be having older siblings read to their younger siblings’ classes across the day. Also, as a ‘break’ from play during snack and to regroup following reflection conversations, students will share their favorite read alouds with their class. Each student is asked to bring in their favorite picture book to share with the class.
What’s Next:
THERE WILL BE HOMEWORK...CONTINUE the PLAY! Use the Wakelet sent home with the Hubbard Check In to add pictures of your family engaged in playing on February 7th.
Start thinking about what board games your children would like to bring in to play (no electronics) and their favorite picture book to share. Thank you in advance for your support of play and photo contributions!
You might also enjoy going to www.storylineonline.net to hear wonderful books read aloud by famous actors. There’s a great book selection on this website and the read alouds are engaging and overall enjoyable!
Why it Matters:
Here are some articles that I have shared with my staff about free play that I thought you would find interesting as well.
