Ms. Carolyn Chakmakjian, Humanities Instructional Coach, and Mr. Carmen Lacherza, Ramsey’s Supervisor of English Language Arts and Services, recently delivered a presentation at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) annual convention, alongside nationally recognized literacy leaders Maggie Roberts, Gravity Goldberg, Kristi Mraz, and Renee Houser.

  • The presentation focused on implementing choice and voice in the classroom in order to promote engagement in authentic literacy experiences. In particular, Ms. Chakmakjian and Mr. Lacherza focused on doing the work of the units of study alongside students to build a culture of co-learning.

Why it matters: Ramsey is dedicated to creating a culture of readers, writers, and thinkers who can communicate effectively, develop a deep understanding of themselves and the human experience, and explore, investigate and research various topics.

What they are saying: “Presenting at the NCTE was a wonderful experience, and gave me the opportunity to connect with educators from across the nation. In doing so, it reinforced the great work that we have done as a district to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our students.” - Carolyn Chakmakjian
