What's happening: Dater's Meet the Masters Art Appreciation Program is back as Picturing America

This volunteer- run, collaborative program between parents and Dater School is designed to excite students about art while learning about art history in America. It also offers parent volunteers a fun, engaging way to participate in classroom life.

What they’re saying: “It was a sincere pleasure working with volunteers to revamp the art appreciation program at Dater School. This is an exciting, enriching program that gives parent volunteers an opportunity to share their passion and enthusiasm for the arts within the classroom setting.  Thank you to the Dater PTO for collaborating with us on this creative endeavor, it serves to foster parent/student conversations about art and how it mirrors the world around us!”  -Charissa Hudson, Dater Art Teacher

Volunteer’s will select a piece of artwork from the provided catalog and create a short presentation to share with their child's homeroom class. Click here for an overview of the program to learn more.

The bottom line: The goal of Picturing America is to enhance art education for students at various grade levels, ensuring a more immersive and enjoyable creative experience. Dater PTO volunteers revamped the art enrichment program, updating artwork and incorporating engaging lessons to spark exciting discussions and foster a new perspective. Transitioning to a digital platform makes the program user-friendly, convenient, and aligns with the PTO's objective at Dater School to involve parents in enriching art activities.

What they’re saying: “What can be better than planting a seed in 9, 10, 11 yr olds to get enjoyment by really looking at a still picture? In a world of quick glimpses of images overwhelming all of us, that young people can take minutes to absorb what’s in front of them, is a gift that could continue to grow in a life of balance.” Dana Reinke and Cheryl Fantacone, Chairs of Picturing American Program for Dater PTO
