Dater School’s Extracurricular Clubs Engage Students.
What's happening: Dater School offers a vibrant array of extracurricular clubs, providing students opportunities to explore diverse interests.
Go deeper: These extracurricular clubs, funded by the district, are offered throughout the year. Every now and then, we will highlight the Extracurricular Excitement that is happening here at Dater! This edition of this segment will feature the LEGO Robotics Club.
Big impact: The Dater LEGO Robotics Club is run by 4th grade teacher, Mr. Roger Quinlan. LEGO robotics classes encourage students to hone and apply creativity and engineering-based problem-solving skills.
* Each week, students are randomly assigned to teams and assigned jobs as builders, coders, technology leaders, or recorders.
* They must work together to finish their mission: to have their robot complete an obstacle course.
* Students accomplish their goals using many competencies listed in the Profile of a Ramsey Graduate, including collaboration, adaptability, and self-direction. They think critically and creatively as they choose multiple design and coding ideas and reflect on their successes and possible setbacks to prepare for the following week.
What they’re saying: “The Dater School LEGO Robotics Club is entering its 5th year at Dater School. We want to graciously thank the RPEF, who, through a generous grant, have donated 12 Lego Spike Prime kits. This has allowed us to expand our club this year to have 12 teams of 4 students participating, which is amazing! Thank you RPEF!” - Mr. Roger Quinlan
What’s next: The Dater LEGO Robotics Club hopes to present its builds at the Smith School STEM Night on March 20, 2025.
