On Wednesday, March 6th our 8th Grade Battle of the Books teams traveled to Cavallinni for the County-Wide Battle of the Books Competition!
What is it: Advised by our library media specialist, Ms. Kasey Kelly, Battle of the Books is a Trivia Competition for students based on a state-wide predetermined list of 15 books. Since October, student teams of five have read the books, discussed them, and held meetings to practice quizzing each other on the contents. Teams competed first at an Inter-School Competition between other Smith teams before traveling to Cavallinni Middle School to compete in a trivia tournament against other Bergen County middle schools.
Did You Know: Many of the students in this year's team have participated in the 6th & 7th grade teams as well!
Both 8th grade teams did a proud showing and ended the game tied for 3rd place in Bergen County with 56 points each. Both team also received numerous compliments received from other teachers & parents about how respectful, well-spoken, and sportsmanlike all the students were through the competition. They truly exemplified the best versions of themselves and the model of a Ramsey Student.
