2024 Peace Poster Contest

8th grade student, Isabella Chimbay, was selected as the District Winner and State Finalist for the 2024 Lion’s Club Peace Poster Contest!

Why it matters: For over 30 years, the Peace Poster contest sponsored by Lion’s Club International provides children with a chance to visually express their visions of peace while inspiring the world through artistic creativity. This year’s theme was “Dare to Dream”.

Each fall, Smith art teacher, Ms. Christine Mugno, has students to submit to the contest, with one Smith student being selected as the School Wide winner to move onto the District & State levels before moving onto the National & International competitions.

Isabella was recognized as one of only 3 finalists in the state of New Jersey and one of just 48 world-wide finalists for the contest!

  • By The Numbers: The contest received about 200 entries from the state of New Jersey an an estimated 600,000 total international entries.

  • Did You Know: Isabella’s poster was only the second time in more than a decade that an entry sponsored by the Saddle River Valley Lions Club progressed this far in the competition.

  • What’s Next: Isabella & Ms. Mugno have been invited as honorees to a dinner hosted by the Saddle River Valley Lions Club in June where they will be recognized for their incredible contributions to the arts!

🎉CONGRATULATIONS to Isabella on this fantastic achievement!
