On Friday, September 27th, Smith students and staff gathered for our first Pep Rally of the year to celebrate the start of school and to elect Student Council Executives for the 2024-2025 year!
Students ran for President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary positions.
They created campaign posters and platforms detailing their vision for the school year.
Topics for the speeches included Spirit Week involvement, the importance of Charity Challenge, Fundraising Efforts, and other essential topics to the middle school community.
Student Council candidates presented their platform to the student body at a whole-school Pep Rally. Mr. Sirota assisted in hyping up the crowd with a t-shirt cannon to give lucky students a chance to win free Ramsey merch!
“StuCo” advisors, Mr. Andrew Schrettner and Ms. Gina Aiello, arranged for an authentic voting process during grade level lunch periods- allowing students to have their voices heard and practice the democratic process.
Students checked in at a “Voter Registration” Table, cast their vote in a private “Ballot Box”, and got to show off their Civic Pride with “I Voted Stickers!”
Why it matters: Student council at the middle school age is important as it helps students develop leadership skills, learn about the democratic process, and take ownership of their school environment and community.
This year’s executives are…
President: Noah Felmlee
Vice President: Tessa Frank
Treasurer: Joey Burns
Secretary: Edward Jean
Special THANK YOU to StuCo advisors, Mr. Schrettner and Ms. Aiello for making the election possible and a huge congratulations to all our candidates
