🕊 Today we Remembered and Honored…. as 8th grade students had a guest speaker detail their family’s experience in Nazi Germany.
🎤 Evelyn Summer spoke with 8th grade World Cultures classes about her mother, Hannah Kroner, and her legacy as a dancer and activist, and her experience of persecution by Germany’s Nazi regime.
Evelyn showed students photos, documents, audio recordings of her mother’s own account, and articles of clothing which belonged to her mother as she took students through Hannah’s story
Evelyn carried on her mother’s legacy and ongoing belief; “No matter what, we keep dancing.” Reminding students in the face of adversity and challenge, to keep persisting with hope and their passions
Students were able to reflect, empathize, and better understand the experiences of the survivors of this immense tragedy.
🏛 What's Next? In June, our 8th grade students will visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC to further their understanding and engage with historical artifacts and stories.
💙Thank you to Evelyn for taking time to speak on this difficult but essential topic with our students, and to our Grade 8 World Cultures teachers- Mr. St. Thomas, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Abma, and Ms. Clinton- for facilitating this visit and discussion
