Congratulations to two Dater Fifth Graders (Kayla Won and Gustavs Kalmen) who earned 1st and 2nd place awards at the Junior Woman's Club of Ramsey's 37th Annual Spelling Bee!

Why it matters: Our word study program nurtures a conceptual understanding of vocabulary and spelling by teaching how words work. Students recognize and generalize patterns across words, identify features, and explore word origins through Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the successes of our students’ love for language. Their work demonstrates not only their mastery of spelling but a deep understanding of the intricacies of language. Congratulations!” -Mr. Carmen Lacherza, Supervisor of English and ELL

The big picture: This annual contest spans outside the Ramsey borders, to include fifth graders from Mahwah and St. Paul’s, to see who will be the spelling bee champion.

What’s next: Armed with exceptional spelling prowess, these Dater students’ next stop is the State Spelling bee! 🐝🏆
