What's happening: Computer Science Education Week kicked off internationally last week. This annual event is held each December to promote computer science education among students, families, and communities. The week is celebrated in honor of Grace Hopper, a pioneer in computer programming.
Why it matters: Computer Science exposure provides Ramsey students the opportunity to think critically, be creative, communicate, and collaborate with peers - all components of our Profile.
In Ramsey, students celebrated throughout the District in a variety of ways:
Elementary students programmed Mouse and Bee Bots, designed and navigated pathways, and debugged their algorithms.
Students engaged in activities online as well as “unplugged” activities that focus on patterns and sequences.
At Dater, students did research to better understand coding and computer science. Students participated in an Hour of Code, choosing an activity of their choice. In the upcoming weeks, students will be programming Ozobots!
At Smith, Mr. Frisch hosted an Hour of Code after school. Attendees learned and programmed using Python, a popular coding language.
At RHS, we offer four computer science courses. Computer Programming I and II, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science A. This year, approximately 100 students are participating in a computer science course at the high school.
