What's happening: Fifth graders at Dater School are set to embark on an exciting project: creating their own school newspaper. The idea for the John Y. Dater Times came from Khloe F., a 5th grade student in Wissell/McGowan. She imagined a recess/lunch club where students could come together and collaborate to create something of their very own.
What they’re saying: “The John Y. Dater Times is a newsletter created by kids for kids that will report on what’s happening around Dater, Ramsey, and even our world. We’ll have different sections like puzzles. Dater’s monthly character traits, surveys, and more. We’ll be sending it out digitally every month or so! Roles include reporters, designers, photographers, editors, and more!” — Khloe F., 5th grade student
Why it matters: This initiative encourages creativity, teamwork, and enhances writing skills among students.
🗞 Provides a platform for student voice.
🗞 Fosters a sense of responsibility and time management
The big picture: The school newspaper project aligns with educational goals, promoting literacy and communication skills. It also offers students a glimpse into the world of journalism and media.
Way to go Khloe! 🎉
