What's happening: Ramsey High School Spanish students are putting their language skills to work through an innovative partnership with Northern Valley Old Tappan.
Students in Sra. King's Spanish IV Honors class are creating Spanish-language instructional videos explaining Yondr phone pouches for their peers at Northern Valley.
Why it matters: This collaboration advances real-world language application while developing essential skills. Students must think critically about how to clearly communicate technical information in Spanish, work together to produce effective content, and creatively engage their audience.
What they’re saying: “This project was a great opportunity for students to talk about a real world problem - social media usage. Our fall units explored social media's societal impact, allowing students to analyze this relevant real-world issue through research and discussion. The project enabled them to examine how social media shapes modern human interaction and behavior.” -Sra. King, Teacher of Spanish, RHS
What’s next: Sra. King mentioned the students at NVOT will be preparing a video response. Her students are hoping to reconnect with them on Zoom to discuss other issues in Spanish in the future.
The bottom line: This project further demonstrates how schools can leverage partnerships to create authentic learning experiences.
