Students in Mrs. Broderick's science class explored thermal energy with glow sticks in hot and cold water. They noticed the hot water made the glow sticks extra bright and the ice water made the glow stick dim.

Smith's Gift Drive was a success! Partnering with the Tommy Strong Foundation, Smith staff and students were able to come together this holiday season to collect gifts for families currently spending the holidays in a Children's Hospital. Today the Smith Library hosted our Annual Holiday Story event!
Holiday Story is an annual tradition where 6th grade English classes come into the library the last school day before Winter break to enjoy classic holiday stories read aloud by teachers.
Teachers from across all 3 grade levels and varying subject areas as well as Building Administrators volunteered to read a wide variety of holiday and winter tales including celebrations of Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas, and Winter stories.
It was a great way to end 2024 and ease into a well-deserved Winter Break! Special thanks to all of our volunteer readers💙❄️📖

Friendly RAMinder, early dismissal on Friday.

This week in 7th grade book club, students spread some holiday cheer by writing letters to Senior Citizens in need!
What’s Happening: This year’s student book clubs are centered around the theme of “Stories That Inspire” asking students to consider how books inspire people to think outside the box, feel empathy for others, and create new things. After reading the memoir I Will Always Write Back, 7th grade students considered how one letter can change a person’s life or brighten their day. The 7th grade book club discovered a letter writing campaign, Love For Our Elders, which seeks to connect to isolated Senior Citizens around the world during the holiday season. Students spent their meeting writing and decorating their letters with color and art, poetry, word searches, and filled their messages with encouraging words to wish these senior citizens well into the New Year!
What’s Next: All letters will be mailed out by Friday, December 20th! 6th grade and 8th grade book clubs will likewise be completing their own community service-based projects in the coming months inspired by their own grade-level book club book.

Smith School Social Studies is Spilling the Tea since 1773! Today in Ms. Roscoe's class, 6th grade students learned all about the Boston Tea Party. Students enjoyed some iced tea & snacks as they engaged with this pivotal moment in American history. Just goes to show that learning can be a REVOLUTIONARY good time!

🎶 A surprise mariachi performance in Mrs. Kenduck’s 6th-grade Spanish at Smith School class brought "Cielito Lindo" to life! 🎺Daniel Sutherland on la trompeta and Nicholas Fantacone on el tambor inspired classmates to join in singing, "Ay yay yay yay, canta y no llores!"
Experiences like this build cultural appreciation, language skills, and a love for learning in our World Language program. 🌍❤️

Mrs. Broderick's students explored energy transfers by bouncing a tennis ball on top of a basketball to see how high the tennis ball can bounce when given energy from the basketball.

🧬🔬Today we were SCIENTISTS 🔬🧬 In Mrs. Stracuzzi's Grade 7 Science class students investigated different objects and how they stored elastic energy. The students explored how a plastic spring, a metal spring, a pop up cap, a wind up butterfly 🦋 , a large rubber band, and a bouncy ball 🎾use elastic energy in different ways.
✅✅ Thank you , Mrs. Stracuzzi!
