HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM 5Gesualdo/Thomson! 🎃👻

Can you escape?!? Dater students listened to a read aloud about the importance of reading directions and listening to advice. Then, they worked in groups, using a TOP SECRET 🤫 Mission Binder, to escape the ITC. 🕵️♂️🕵️

5th graders consider the role of the scribe in ancient Sumer by trying to "write" in cuneiform. They asked: How will the ability to write things down impact their civilization?

4th grade math stations provide an opportunity for the teacher to work in small groups & really engage each learner in what they need. The children work independently or in partnerships to grapple in problem solving while reinforcement of important math skills is happening through games like Mancala which reinforces mental calculations and pattern recognition and more!

Another Spooktacular time was had by all at the PTO's Creepy Carnival! Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this possible and to our very own Dater school DJ Mr. Quinlan for keeping us entertained all night!

4Guarnieri had a blast learning about how to identify the main idea, and supporting details of a text, particularly with Halloween-themed topics! These eager learners collaborated by sharing their thoughts, and then had the chance to independently apply the skill within their own texts. I am so proud of their progress!

(Part 2) The rest of the 4th grade (4O'Hern, 4Horton, 4Kirch/McLaud, and 4Chaparro/Ramsden) went on their field trip to the roller rink today. Not only did the field trip teach the students about STEM, but it also encouraged risk-taking, resiliency, and perseverance. 🛼🎉

4Groenveld's math class practicing multiplication by making array monsters. "We can take BIG ARRAYS and break them into SMALL ARRAYS to solve multiplication problems." ✖️👹

👩🔬🧑🔬Check out 5Gesualdo/Thomson scientists exploring the properties of matter!

(Part 1) 4Davidson, 4O'Rourke, 4Groenveld, and 4Guarnieri went on a field trip to the roller rink to experience all of their STEM learning in action. They learned about force and friction, and had a blast while doing it! 🛼🎉 The day even ended with a dance party!

Students in 5Modesto/Azouri & 5Gesualdo/Thomson are bringing their class read aloud, Esperanza Rising, to life by learning how to crochet. 🧶 Students are learning from the secondary character, Abuelita, about how it is okay to start over and pull your work!

The first day of Dater recess groups in ITC was so much fun! Students made new friends while eating lunch, participating in Makerspace activities, and playing games.

The Dater Band has kicked off recess practice, and it has become an instant success. It's a great place for students to learn and collaborate with each other on their instruments. 🎷🎺🎹🪇

Students in 5Montorio & 5Hedden explore why air is matter with hands on investigations.

Mrs. Carozza's 4th grade students played a few rounds of 'Heads Up' to review economics vocabulary.

It's Binary Code BONANZA week in Ms. Doherty's fourth grade GATE class. Students work to write messages in binary code and then code break!!

When our students become our teachers! Students in 4G were a model for visiting literacy leaders from across districts. Ms. Guanieri's Ss allowed us to study practice and how our practices affect student outcomes. Incredible day!

Students in 4Kirch/McLaud and 4Chaparro/Ramsden learned all about the distributive property through a new math game called Small Array/Big Array. This game helps students to see how they can break larger multiplication problems into 2 or 3 smaller ones to solve.

Ms. Doherty's book club cozies up with a good book on pajama day! Exploring new vocabulary and reading with voice!
