One of our core responsibilities is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Children are less likely to succeed if they are chronically absent.
Why it matters:
Children chronically absent in K and Grade 1 are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of Grade 3.
By Grade 6, chronic absenteeism is an early warning sign for students at risk of dropping out of school.
By Grade 9, good attendance can predict graduation rates even better than 8th grade test scores.
Unfortunately, our attendance numbers have slipped over the past few years. In 2018-19, our chronic absenteeism rate was 3.88% (120 total students). In 2022-23, our chronic absenteeism rate was 9.58 (271 total students).
This slide in attendance is not unique to Ramsey; it is a trend linked to the pandemic. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. We also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Let us know how we can best support you and your children so they can attend school on time daily. We want every Ram to be successful in school!
