In an extraordinary weekend for Ramsey High School, both the boys' and girls' soccer teams secured Group 2 state titles, marking a historic achievement for the school. On Saturday, the boys' team, led by senior outside back Max Nierenberg, clinched victory with a 2-0 win over Delran in the Group 2 championship. Nierenberg's decisive goal, a skip header in the second half, contributed to Ramsey's unbeaten season (22-0-2) and their first state title in 16 years. The victory showcased the team's growth, resilience, and determination after falling short in the state final in the previous two years.
Following the boys' triumph, the spotlight shifted to the Ramsey girls' soccer team on Sunday, creating a remarkable doubleheader of state championships. Freshman Kendall Reid emerged as the unexpected hero, coming off the bench to score the winning goal, off an assist by Senior Nina Davis, in the 44th minute of the Group 2 girls soccer final against Wall. The Rams secured a 3-1 victory, claiming their first state title in twelve years. Coach Drew Strohmeyer, celebrating his 24th year as head coach, expressed pride in the teams' extraordinary bonds, with the boys and girls showcasing their talent and teamwork. Ramsey High School's historic achievement of dual state championships in soccer emphasizes the depth and excellence of the school's soccer programs, leaving an indelible mark on the 2023 North Jersey soccer season.
