What's happening: RHS seniors completed their Defenses of Learning last week.

  • Profile Projects are based on an area of interest, a passion, or a way students can contribute to their local or global community.

  • Defenses of Learning are presentations the students lead in front of a panel of teachers and administrators. They explain and analyze how the process of their Profile Project helped them grow in the Profile of a Ramsey Graduate Competencies, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy, to name a few.

Why it matters: This culminating experience is an authentic application of all levels of our Profile, and it shows that we structure what we value and are making the Profile come to life.

  • A key difference between our defenses and other culminating projects is that we assess students’ use of their project to grow and develop.

  • Panelists use resources like this one to assess students’ defenses:

Reflection Rubric

Reflection is at the top of panelists’ rubrics, as it is the top habit of mind in our Profile.

What they’re saying: “As a 9th grade teacher, it is incredibly exciting to see my former students, who were once quiet, nervous and lacking confidence, transform over three years into mature, confident young adults. Witnessing them stand solo in front of a panel of teachers, presenting with such poise, is truly rewarding.  Serving as a panel member for the Defense of Learning presentations is something I look forward to every year.”  -Mrs. Daryl Derleth, ELA Teacher, Ramsey High School

The big picture: Grade 8 students will complete their Profile Projects and Junior Defenses of Learning this Friday at Smith.
