What's happening: Our District's commitment to fostering artistic excellence and literary engagement reached new heights as Ramsey High School hosted its milestone 15th annual Poetry Out Loud contest last Friday. This achievement represents our district's enduring dedication to nurturing not just academic excellence, but also the creative spirit that drives innovation and personal growth in all our schools.
Why it matters: The competition, which drew over 50 poets, exemplifies how our district's comprehensive approach to education empowers students at every grade level to find their voice and develop essential communication skills.
The overall winner, who will represent Ramsey at the Regional Contest, is Freshman, Ella Moise, who recited “Ode for the American Dead in Asia.” Grade-level winners and the poems they recited are as follows:
🎙Grade 9: Giovanna Mazzilli, “Cartoon Physics, Part I”
🎙Grade 10: Justin DiPilato, “I am the People, the Mob”
🎙Grade 11: LilyAnn Kriz (overall runner-up), “Wherever I’m At That Land is Chicago”
🎙Grade 12: Gunther Deas “Falling: The Code” & Alexandra Bruno, “Ozymandias”
The big picture: Events like these foster creativity and confidence among students, encouraging them to explore and express their literary talents. Poetry Out Loud happens because of the collaboration and dedication of the English Department.
