In late April, students from our 7th grade Social Studies classes presented at the 2024 Youth in Action Summit at Rutgers!
What It Is: The Youth In Action Summit is a conference for students across the state of New Jersey to come and present their Civic Action Projects.
Students each identified an issue that they found to be concerning their schools.
Students researched their topics by interviewing, surveying, and conducting outside research.
Students also had to come up with solutions to their problems they identified.
The process entailed Rutgers and Ramsey (along with other New Jersey schools) partnering together on this project. 4 students were chosen randomly from each class to present on topics such as:
Mr. Abma’s students: “School Cleanliness”
Ms. Ung’s students: “School Start Time”
Ms. Dobbs & Ms. Donohue’s students: “Lunch and Recess Supplies”
By the Numbers: All social studies classes on Teams 1, 2, and 3 worked on their Civic Action projects on various challenges they have experienced at the school.
The students voted for the strongest presentations, meaning the presentations with the most research and well executed.
The classes with the most votes had 4 students in their class chosen to present at Rutgers.
There were 12 students from Ramsey’s 7th grade representing!
What they’re saying: Ms. Kate Dobbs, 7th grade Social Studies teacher, said; “Though 12 students were chosen to represent our school at the summit, these amazing projects would not have been possible without the hard work from every student in the 7th grade.”

Teacher Appreciation Week kicks off at Smith School with a special visit from everyone's favorite K-9 unit- Jack! Thanks @ramseypolicenj for stopping by to give our teachers & staff some love🐾❤️
Seven Smith students were accepted into this year's Region I Elementary Honor Band. The 6th grade students worked hard preparing their music weeks before the all-day rehearsal and concert on Saturday, May 4. These young musicians did a great job representing Ramsey. Congratulations to Logan McGrath, Robby Rutigliano, Marcus Stefanelli, Dante Chung, Talina Samulka, John Lepori, Arlette Ngabo!

Ms. Garcia's class at Smith School took over the kitchen today to make popcorn for charity! Students and staff worked together to make and package over 40 bags of popcorn! The money we raised will go towards helping our custodian Mr. Fowler and his family🍿
A Ramsey Senior has reached out to our Smith School community to help her fulfill her Profile Project goals. This student is highly passionate about animal rescues and she is collecting donations for the local animal rescue RBARI. Our Smith community is happy to pitch in and we are asking for donations. The collection will run from Monday, April 29th - Friday, May 3rd. Please see the attached flyer for the shelter’s needs. Any donation no matter how small helps. The shelter is full of wonderful animals that need homes so perhaps consider adding a furry member to your home!
6th graders visited Philadelphia this week! Teachers & students ventured into history visiting spots such as the Liberty Bell, Congress Hall, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin's grave, the US Mint, Christ Church, Constitutional Center, and Betsy Ross's house. It was a fun filled and educational day for everyone! Special thanks to our 6th grade Social Studies teachers for organizing such a great day
