Returning to Routine After a Long Break

In Dr. Matteo’s most recent District Digest, he reiterated the importance of readjusting after a long break. We can support our children both in school and at home in a number of ways:

  • Socially: Role play scenarios with your children to assist them in making good choices in social interactions.

  • Emotionally: Practice coping strategies (taking deep breaths, counting to 10, etc.) and provide a daily emotion check-in.

  • Cognitively: Encourage children to engage in activities like reading together, writing in a journal, or solving problems.

Why it matters:

  • Recognizing and addressing regulation challenges early helps ease students back into routines and learning.

  • Collaborative strategies with families and staff can foster smoother re-entry and promote emotional stability.
