In Dr. Matteo’s most recent District Digest, he reiterated the importance of readjusting after a long break. We can support our children both in school and at home in a number of ways:
Socially: Role play scenarios with your children to assist them in making good choices in social interactions.
Emotionally: Practice coping strategies (taking deep breaths, counting to 10, etc.) and provide a daily emotion check-in.
Cognitively: Encourage children to engage in activities like reading together, writing in a journal, or solving problems.
Why it matters:
Recognizing and addressing regulation challenges early helps ease students back into routines and learning.
Collaborative strategies with families and staff can foster smoother re-entry and promote emotional stability.
