Whatโ€™s happening: Tisdale 3rd grader Teddy Birgler was honored as grand champion of the 2nd and 3rd grade division of the 19th Annual Josephine School Community Museum dramatic reading contest in honor of Black History Month.

Big impact: The event, which was held on February 15th, was open to students in 2nd through 5th grade, contestants shared their interpretations of stories, poems, folktales, and more written by or about African Americans.

He is kind and enthusiastically engages in our classroom discussions, especially when learning about science and social studies. Go deeper: Students who entered were required to follow specific contest guidelines, including:

  • Choice of selection- work of fiction or biography excerpt

  • Interpretation- expression, enunciation, and pronunciation

  • Stage Presence- eye contact, posture, engagement
